This had to be the straw that broke the camels back. Job starts at 7:00, I call him at 7:05 and wake him up. He lives about 1.5-2 hours away.
No one here liked the dude anyway, had a chip on his shoulder like everyone should cater to him and he’d say he’d just go home as if it weren’t a punishment.
I feel bad but I don’t. Guy had it coming. When he is not on his phone he is on it. That doesn’t work out well as a laborer.

He asked for it man. In that sort of biz, his work ethic is THE worst. So many young dudes in construction fit this description

I’ve gotten someone fired before. They blamed the whole thing on me, they should’ve blamed the whole thing on their own damn self for doing a shit job for 10 years. They should send the CEO one hell of a thank you for keeping her on that long. It’s been about 3.5 years and her mistakes are STILL impacting our work.

I wouldn’t feel bad at all.
Do the job or get out and let someone else do it.
As for a labourer, they are suppose to graft and learn on the job. They do the carrying, not be carried by their colleagues.
I see it too often with some of the younger generation thinking the world owes them a favour because they condescend to come to work.

We’ve got a guy like that. Many of us beg for him to be fired due to his constant lateness and typical 2.5-3 weeks in aggregate sick days taken yearly (we only get a week per year, and I’m not even sure that’s correct). The best part is that he’s constantly asking for more responsibility, yet every job he’s given is either completed late or completely ignored.
He told people he was looking for another job, and we all offered references (I’ll give him glowing references to get rid of him). He’s recently cleared all of his personal stuff out from his desk, so we’re really hoping for him to be someone else’s problem soon.

I had a coworker we got fired after he was so erratic we weren’t sure if he’d show up at all any day.
He had to take his kid to school 3x a week, but he’d still be late 5x a week. We’d start the day at 5am and he’d show up around 10am and leave around 3pm. He claimed to log 8 hours a day.
I currently have a coworker we can’t seem to fire. No one has a clue what her job is. She can’t be trusted to do anything short of arranging chairs in the break room. She will lose her building ID card for 2 weeks and not tell anyone. Or will lock herself out of all her accounts for weeks without telling me. It is baffling. I offered to replace her with my cat as occasionally my cat would walk across the keyboard and do work.

Very true. I know people more than willing to laze about and live off parents/ the dole with no intention of working. Meanwhile im grafting my arse off (well maybe not at my current job in this last weeks since i know im leaving haha). But otherwise i work bloody hard to climb up the ladder and earn a decent wage.

I helped get a guy fired for sexual harassment. When he got fired we were all high fiving each other, he was a creep.

I would like to see these people fined and have their wages docked for the amount of work done or fined for being an oxygen thief.
I expect colleagues to pull their weight or with the best that they can.
I’m turning into a grumpy old man very fast.

I have a co-worker who fucks everything up, does it wrong, or takes his sweet ass time doing something simple. Yesterday, he left the equipment for over an hour to go get lunch(big no-no, as there is a town with a couple of places to eat 5-10 minutes away), the truck wouldn’t start. He apparently ran it out of fuel as he rolled in the parking lot. So the equipment ended up being left running, alone, for hours. Boss was irate. So we’ll see. He did have to work on his day off to try to fix some of his mess.

Don’t feel bad. If he doesn’t want to do his job, then somebody who does should have it instead.

People like this are the bane of my existence. I worked my ass off to get to where I am and seeing people who just loaf around and expect to be rewarded for it makes my blood boil.

Been there, done that. Also, felt bad for about 35 seconds. It wouldn’t have happened if he wasn’t such a shitty worker.

Yeah there’s plenty of bullshit in this world of ours. Thankfully there’s plenty of good out there too.

The percentage of good is getting smaller and smaller though as the number of stupid increases exponentially.

Yeah I just try to focus on the good and to hell with the rest. I’m cynical enough already without worrying about everything going wrong in the world.

Must be quite the job to live 1.5 hours away. Although his absence makes me think he doesnt feel that way.

I contributed to a long time friend being fired from the place we both worked at. As a friend I hated seeing her lose her job, but as a coworker I knew she needed to be gone. Terrible attitude, lazy, stirred up drama, you name it.

You’re human. The human part of you feels bad.
I’ve canned a bunch of people before, and felt bad in almost every case.

The thing is though, if you’re in the U.S.A. and something like this happens, you have no reason to be confident he won’t show up with a gun.

He has a gun every day. I don't think he ever doesn't have one. But I don't think he is that crazy. He will be back next year when we get busy for the summer.

It’s the 80%-20% rule. 20% of people possess 80% of all wealth. 80% of a companies’ business comes from 20% of it’s customers. 20% of the words in the English language are used 80% of the time. And 80% of work is done by 20% of people.
